How to Know When You Have Enough Disk Space
1 GB (Gigabyte) = 1,000 MB
1 MB (Megabyte) = 1,000 KB
1 KB (Kilobyte) = 1,000 Bytes
1 Byte = 8 bits, or approximately 1 character (letter or number)
So, A web site with 1 GB of disk space can store 8 billion characters,
or 1 billion words. Needless to say, most web sites do not even use 1 GB.
As a general rule, one MB is enough space for 10 pages, including text and images.
The average web site uses less than 100 MB.
Our minimum package is 1,000 MB (10,000 pages), which is more
than enough for most sites. However, you should get more if you need to store large files,
such as PDF's or videos, or if you receive several MB worth of emails on a regular basis.
Our plans go up to 50,000 MB (50 GB), but if you need more than that we can create a
custom plan for you. We can also trade off bandwidth limitations for more disk space and
vice-versa.
So Why Are Some Hosts Offering Unlimited Disk Space?
They are massively overselling. To illustrate overselling,
lets say I know you are only going to be using 30 megs.
I could offer you eVerity's minimum plan for
only $3.99, or I could offer you another plan with 500,000 megs, or "unlimited," for only
$7.95. Even though
I may not have that much space, I can offer because I know you'll never use it.
A huge amount of space
for only $7.95 is a great deal, right? Wrong!
With eVerity, you don't pay for more than you need, and we don't sell more space than we have.
This ensures servers are always up, and more importantly, always fast and efficient.
If you ever
need to upgrade or downgrade your account you can do so immediately, with no extra fees.
