How to Point Your Domain Name to Your Hosting Account
Hosting and domain registration are two separate services and can be purchased from
different providers. If you have used another provider in the past, and your domain name
is still registered there, please skip to section 2 below.
1. If Your Domain Name is Registered Through eVerity...
No action is required on your part. Everything is set automatically. There is no need to
read further. That was easy, wasn't it?
2. If Your Domain Name is Registered Through Another Provider
You will need to update its nameservers so that it directs to your hosting account with eVerity.
When you order a new hosting account, eVerity immediately sends you an email
with the two nameservers that you need to use. Be sure you erase your domain's current nameserver
values, and replace them with the ones for eVerity. If you are not sure how to make this
update, please contact the provider where your domain is registered for instructions on how
to use their system.
IMPORTANT: If you are planning to transfer your registration, please wait until after
you have updated the nameservers. Once a domain name is in transit, you may not be able to
make changes. Most providers have a "safety period" of 5 to 10 days on transfers, so if
you initiate a transfer before updating the nameservers, your site could be down for a few
days!
3. My Domain is Name Registered Through eVerity, but I'm Using A Different Host
In this case, you'll need to change the nameserver values for your domain name to the ones
provided by your host. Please follow the steps below:
- Log in to eVerity.com
- Click "Manage Domains"
- Click the Domain Name in question.
- Locate the Nameservers section, and replace the current values with the ones provided by
your host.
- Click "Update Nameservers"
Please note that nameserver changes normally propagate within 3 to 5 hours, but may take longer
in some cases.
